Developing Lifelong Learners with a Firm Foundation
God can bless you with everything you need, and you will always have more than enough to do all kinds of good things for others. -- 2 Corinthians 9:8
Welcome
Christruction Tutoring is a home-based business founded on the principle that all children can learn. It is my belief that success breeds success. Children are instructed on the edge of their comfort zones to optimize growth. As students gain confidence through positive experiences, they are willing to take risks resulting in accelerated learning. By setting short-term, attainable goals and tracking progress toward those goals, students develop educational empowerment.
I look forward to working with you and your child toward a brighter future!

Foundational Literacy Skills
The knowledge of letters and sounds form the basis of reading. Students need to be able to manipulate sounds, understand that letters represent those sounds, correctly associate the correct spelling of each sound, and develop sight recognition of familiar words. Likewise, written foundational skills include correct letter formation, spelling, handwriting, punctuation, and spacing. Without these skills students will struggle with comprehension and composition skills.
Reading Comprehension Skills
Reading comprehension includes all the components needed to support understanding of text. These include accessing and developing background knowledge and vocabulary, understanding language structures, having knowledge of how books and genres function, the ability to use language structures to support understanding, and thinking beyond the surface of the text to use reasoning strategies to “read between the lines”.
Written Composition Skills
Written composition mirrors reading comprehension through the demonstration of topic knowledge and an understanding of the impact of word choice, sentence structure, and organization on the reader. It also addresses the use of correct grammar, and writing in a style appropriate for the intended audience..
Mathematical Skills
Foundational skills in mathematics include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of both single and multi digit numbers. Additionally, making sense of fractions, money, and decimals will be addressed when appropriate. This is done through a progression of understanding beginning with concrete manipulatives, advancing to representational thinking, and ending with the standard algorithm.
